During the mid-late '90s and early 2000's, Joshua B was a Disc Jockey at Northeastern University's WRBB 104.9 FM. He needed a source for Reggae events that he could announce on air. At the time, BostonReggae.com was ran by Anil Batra who had several fliers on the front page.Joshua B would often pull up the site and read off the events, one week when he pulled up the site it wasn't there. The webmaster had let the domain expire. Joshua B happened to be feeling motivated and was in the mood to take on a new project, so he purchased the domain.
His goal was to put in the work and keep a comprehensive list of weekly Reggae events in Boston and the surrounding areas. Joshua B developed an all new website. He also wanted to foster an active community forum where people could discuss up-coming events and post their own show and CD reviews.
The site was quite popular. In particular, the discussion board seemed to become the central spot for all things reggae and dancehall in Boston.
In 2003 Joshua B was no longer motivated and ownership of the website was transferred over to Robert Wint the current owner. A frequent member of the website at the time Joel Fever was asked to use his technical expertise to keep the site up and running. With new youthful ownership in place BostonReggae.com was destined for greatness. Taz another energetic and active member was recruited to join the team. With her great ideas and social skills the site developed a core group of loyal supporters.
Within 3 years of taking over the website, we were nominated and won an Award for Best Website in 2006.
In 2009 it was decided that we needed a face lift and revamping to keep up with cyber world. We recently launched an a new version of the site with plans to highlights those working and having fun in the Boston Reggae scene.
